Some watches tell the story of their manufacture. Others tell the story of the years that followed.
Introduced in 1996, the first-generation Vacheron Constantin Overseas represented a new chapter for one of Switzerland's oldest watchmaking houses. Building on the legacy of the celebrated 222, it combined traditional Swiss watchmaking with the emerging appeal of the integrated-bracelet luxury sports watch.
Yet what makes this particular reference especially compelling is something that could never have been planned at the drawing board: its tropical dial.
Originally produced with a conventional dial finish, certain examples have undergone a gradual transformation over decades, developing shades of brown, purple and copper. The result is an evolving surface that can make each surviving example visually distinctive.
Where most watches are valued for preserving their original appearance, the tropical Overseas invites collectors to appreciate the visible passage of time.
