The birth of a modern diving icon
In 2005, Omega introduced the Planet Ocean, a new chapter in its long history of professional diving watches. Inspired by the Seamaster 300 of 1957, the collection combined vintage design cues with contemporary underwater engineering.
Reference 2200.50.00 represents the original 45.5 mm Planet Ocean in its classic black configuration. Its oversized case, broad arrow-shaped hands, black diving bezel and 600-meter water resistance established the identity of a collection that would become central to Omega's modern Seamaster range.
The watch also belongs to an important period in Omega's mechanical development. Its Calibre 2500 incorporates the Co-Axial escapement, technology introduced by Omega in 1999 to reduce friction within the movement.
For collectors, the original Planet Ocean offers a connection to the beginning of a modern Omega collection, before later generations introduced ceramic bezels, larger manufacture movements and exhibition casebacks.
