My Abracadabra collection is made with vintage lenticular images. First created in the late 1930’s, these playful objects combine multiple images together to tell a story.
At first glance, lenticular images seem to use a rather simple technology. This, however, could not be further from the truth. It is one thing to understand the basics of the technology, but it is quite another thing to be able to apply it. Made by the famous VariVue, by the late1940’s, lenticulars were hugely popular, with the company producing millions of animated and stereographic images including everything from wall hangings to record album covers, CrackerJack prizes, greeting cards, post cards, political buttons and so much more. By the 1950’s, VariVue’s images had become such a craze that many famous personalities of the time wanted to be featured in their advertisements, and their buttons were used in every political campaign throughout the country.
Today, early VariVue lenticular images are hot collector items with some selling for thousands of dollars. These playful gems provide the inspiration for my one-of-a-kind Abracadabra pendants. The newest chapter in this collection; Abracadabra Luxe, features particularly rare and highly sought after Green Hornet, Batman and Popeye lenticulars. I have celebrated their preciousness, setting them in 18k Gold, decorating these beauties with diamonds, rubies and sapphires
